Stitch Fix Review #23

I often forget there’s no commitment with Stitch Fix. I can schedule a Fix based on my needs, whether I need an outfit for an event, or if I simply want to “window shop”. I can cancel a scheduled Fix before they begin styling it if I decide I no longer need it. I can even exchange items that I love, but don’t fit.

Most of my recent Fixes have been for special events (mostly business) and this month I found myself free to choose some fun items with no style restrictions. I decided not to ask for anything specific from my stylist, nor did I ask for my preferred stylist. I wanted to see what they would select for me, based on my history and previous purchase.

But First!  What is Stitch Fix?

Stitch Fix is an online personal stylist service tailored to fit your taste, your budget, and your schedule. You can opt to receive Fixes automatically every few weeks, every few months, or on demand.  You fill out a detailed questionnaire with things like your height, weight, and body shape, along with your style preferences. Stitch Fix carries a variety of price points (which you can pre-set during the questionnaire phase).  They carry private label and recently started carrying premium brand items as well. Do you prefer dresses or pants? Are you feminine and flirty, classic, or edgy?

Stitch Fix Style Card

Your personal stylist will curate 5 pieces for you to try on in the comfort of your own home. You only keep what you like and return the rest. Shipping is free both ways and they even provide prepaid packaging. Just toss whatever you don’t want keep into the package, seal it up, and leave it for your postal carrier. The best part is if you keep all 5 pieces, you will get a 25% discount! And they only charges a $20 styling fee which is applied to anything you purchase.

What is Your Favorite Color?

I don’t know about you, but my favorite colors tend to also be the colors that look best on my skin tone. I love deep dark blues, saturated earthy greens, rich wines, and bold magentas.  I’ve never really liked pastels, and coincidentally, they aren’t very flattering on my skin tone.

There are so many shades and hues of green, but this gorgeous CeCe’s Sportswear Flutter Sleeve Blouse is probably my favorite shade. The deep, dark evergreen is stunning no matter the season. I love the ruffled sleeves and the tiny little leaf pattern. It’s the perfect camouflage for my extra healthy upper arms. And by healthy, I don’t mean kale. 🙄

“Kate” Button Down Silk Blouse by Rails | $188

Every woman should have some staple pieces in her closet and a silk blouse probably tops the list of “must haves”.  It’s best to stick to classic or neutral colors when investing in your staples, especially if it’s a big ticket item like a silk blouse. I love this olive green silk button down and although I keep yearning for a silk staple, this went back.  It fit well and goes with virtually everything, but I fee like if I’m going to spend my money on a silk piece, I want it to be something luxuriously gorgeous. No offense olive green. I still love like a soft, well-worn tee-shirt.

Trina Turk “Latana” Ruffle V-Neck Blouse | $278

Not to brag, but me and Red get along really well.  Not everyone can wear a bold color like Red and get away with it.  My stylist duly noted my preference for v-neck blouses and saturated hues, but sort of missed the mark in style. While this would have been spectacular for my Cuba trip last year, this isn’t something I’d put into regular rotation. This just made me look like a female version of the 🧛 Vampire Lestat.

Velvet by Graham “Sandrine” Tie Neck Top | $159

I love everything about this blouse! It’s difficult to tell, but it’s a deep, dark forest green, almost so dark it looks black. It has pops of color with the pink, yellow, and orange flowers, delicately accented with gold and sage leaves. It’s breezy and comfortable, with a versatile tie neckline. This will pair easily with denim, espadrilles, and a straw handbag for a stylish bo-ho look!

Ecru “Nanni” Split Neck Silk Blouse | $165

Another beautiful silk blouse, this one in a light coral pink. It’s very sheer with a ruffled tie-neckline and varying shades of coral-pink flowers and leaves.

Ugh. Who am I kidding. I hate pink.

Y’all, that’s it for Fix #23. Sorry there were no images of me actually modeling the pieces. We are in the process of moving and I simply couldn’t find a space to photograph that wasn’t cluttered with boxes and junk!

If you noticed, there is no styling fee on my receipt. That’s because for some random reason, Stitch Fix offered me a free “Style Pass” trial for 12 months.  Not sure why, but you’re damn right I clicked on “Hell yes, I’ll take it!”

Coming up soon… Stitch Fix #24.

For this Fix I told my stylist I needed some pieces for a business trip, which is never any fun because I hate pretending to be a grown up. But I was headed to the Sunshine State to meet with a very big client that I wanted to impress. I asked for sharp, professional, and modest pieces in this Fix.

I fell in love with this Stitch Fix floral red blouse from my last Fix. I returned it because it was out of my budget.  Not sure if my stylist received my feedback that it was too expensive, because this month I received an almost identical one with an even higher price tag!

This lovely silk blouse has a deep split-V neckline and delicate blossom flowers. Purchasing a silk piece is an investment that I take pretty seriously. It’s beautiful, don’t get me wrong. And I’m pining for a staple silk blouse to add to my wardrobe. But this piece wasn’t quite the staple piece I was looking for.  Returned.

Stitch Fix #21

I don’t have a fancy camera y’all.  Just an iPhone with crappy bedroom lighting, so this image does not do justice to this gorgeous cream blouse. How sexy would this be for date night 😍!?  Romantic and breezy, this blouse has adjustable ties at the shoulder and a triple flutter hem line. Pair it with black denim and some sassy heels and you’re ready to hit the town. But eek – it was a little overwhelming on my petite frame, so it had to be returned.

Friends, I live and breath tee-shirts 7 days a week. They’re just so easy to wear and can be styled up or down for casual wear, depending on your accessories. So who was super excited to find this adorable Kate Spade ruffled tee in my Fix this month?  🙋🏻 🙋🏻🙋🏻Well, just one of me, not 3 of me.  But that’s how excited I was. 😀  I have very narrow shoulders and these ruffles give the illusion they’re wider. Win! Kept.

I can appreciate my stylist sending this coral ruffled sleeve top. She knows how much I love an open neckline and cozy fabric. This Daniel Rainn top had the *softest* ever material and had a slight stretch to it. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t that flattering on me. Returned.

To complete this month’s Fix, my stylist sent these adorable leather booties by Mia. These would have been an easy “keeper”, except I might already have 2 identical pairs 😑.

Thank God for the first day of Spring!  I’m not gonna brag, but it’s a comfortable 63º with sunny skies and a calm breeze right now.  I’m also in the South, so these perfect Spring days will last all of about 2 weeks and then we’ll be swimming in our own sweat.  Yah. Picture that.

Here’s what I don’t do here on this blog:  Endless idle chit chat.  Because who has time for that?  I’m writing this blog in my spare time, jus’ tryin’ to earn that referral credit so I can feed my Stitch Fix habit.  So let’s just skip the small talk and head right into my latest review!  But first, let me get all the technical stuff out of the way: Continue reading

Eggnog Green Smootie

Let’s face it people, you just can’t drink a thick smoothie with those cute little decorative straws. I know it looks better for photo staging, but I’m all about keepin’ it real. These big fat boba straws are the best!

Nutmeg on Everything!

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved everything eggnog.  So when I accidentally put nutmeg in my morning green smoothie (I meant to use cinnamon), I was absolutely giddy with excitement when it came out tasting (almost) like eggnog!  This was intended to just be a plain smoothie with 3 simple ingredients to get my daily greens and nutrients and turned out to be such a treat.

November Trunk Club Review

Honestly, I don’t know how anyone can start a blog “on the side” while still doing their day job. What was I thinking? 12 hour day job, chores at night, lecture the 16-year old about college, take care of the dogs, go to the gym, more chores, then go to sleep and start all over again. Kudos to those awesome super-mommas out there who have it all together and churn out well-written and witty blog posts every week. I’m lucky if I catch up once every few months. So yah, about those Trunk Club reviews! I may have skipped a couple of them, because a) I suck at this blogging thing, and b) I get distracted easily. It’s quite possible my last Trunk Club Review post is halfway done, but some other project caught my eye, and ooooh, shiny!  Continue reading

Healthy Slow-Cooker Chili with Veggies

20 years ago as a new mom when I was just learning to cook, my stepmom handed down her chili recipe to me. It was one of the very first things I ever made.  Fast forward 2 kids later and her chili is still a hit. I’ve added a few of my own personal tweaks to call it my own. 😉  Continue reading

July 2017 Trunk Club Review

If you’ve already read my June Trunk Club Review, you’ll know my husband and I had a trip planned for Cuba this summer.  I’m not much of a world traveler, so I’ve been super excited about this trip……but not so super excited about the heat and humidity. 😕  Thankfully, my stylist, Cassie, sent me some great pieces in my June Trunk to get started.  Then a few days before we were scheduled to leave, Cassie reached out to me once again to see if I wanted to try any last minute pieces and a new Trunk was waiting for me on my doorstep within 2 days!  Cuba here I come!  Continue reading
